Public Meetings Announced for Scotian Materials Ashphalt Plant Application

The following meetings have been announced by Halifax Regional Municipality.

Notice of Public Information Meeting – Open Houses St. Margaret’s Bay

Open Houses will be held on Wednesday, January 25, 2017 from 6:00pm to 9:00pm and Thursday, January 26, 2017 from 6:00 pm to 9:00pm at the St. Margaret’s Centre, 12 Westwood Blvd in Upper Tantallon regarding the following application:

Case 19461 – Application by Scotian Materials Limited to amend the Planning District 1 and 3 Municipal Planning Strategy and Land Use By-law to enable an asphalt plant at PID #40042822, located approximately 1 km northwest of Highway 103 and 1.5 km west of Little Indian Lake, Head of St. Margaret’s Bay.

Please note that the Open House will be divided into three 1 hour time sessions (6pm, 7pm and 8pm) for a total of 6 sessions over the course of two evenings. Each session, will contain:

  • a presentation at the top of the hour by HRM staff and the Applicant; and,
  • a community input space where community members may submit their comments for the public record.

To manage the anticipated number of people seeking to attend a particular session, we are encouraging (not requiring) residents to call HRM at (902) 490-4472 to book their preferred time session.

The purpose of these open houses are to receive public feedback regarding the above-noted application. Planning staff will be present to discuss the planning process and the application with respect to the provisions of the Municipal Planning Strategy and Land Use By-law for Planning District 1 and 3. The applicant will be present to discuss their proposal. The same information will be presented on both evenings. Members of the public will have a number of ways to provide input on the application. The open houses are open to anyone who wishes to attend to seek information about the proposal and express comments or concerns that they may have.
