On June 19, 2025, Halifax Regional Council approved the 2025 Regional Municipal Planning Strategy. The Province of Nova Scotia’s Minister of Municipal Affairs informed the municipality on August 8, 2025, that the plan could not be accepted or approved in its current form.

This included rezoning of the Five Bridges Wilderness Heritage Trust property (PID 40053654) to the Protected Area Zone.

The 2014 Regional Plan will remain in effect pending further review.
