{"id":1332,"date":"2019-03-25T18:14:33","date_gmt":"2019-03-25T18:14:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/fivebridgestrust.ca\/wp\/?p=1332"},"modified":"2019-03-25T18:14:40","modified_gmt":"2019-03-25T18:14:40","slug":"grant-provides-chance-for-kids-to-go-to-roots-and-boots-forest-school","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/fivebridgestrust.ca\/wp\/?p=1332","title":{"rendered":"Grant Provides Chance for Kids to go to Roots and Boots Forest School"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>In 2018, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rootsandboots.ca\/\">Roots\nand Boots Forest School<\/a> received an Environmental Stewardship Grant from\nthe Trust.&nbsp; The founders of this Nova\nScotia based not-for-profit, Sara Wolthers and Kellie Allen, used the grant\nfunds to hire leaders to assist special needs children, so they too could enjoy\na forest school experience.&nbsp;&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Allen explains, \u201cWe facilitated 62 children in a total\nnumber of 2615 outdoor hours thanks to the grant support of the Trust.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cForest School is very different from a typical kid\u2019s modern\nlife these days,\u201d says Allen.&nbsp; \u201cIt\u2019s about\ngetting children active and involved in outdoor fun and inspired by nature.\u201d &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Allen explains, \u201cUnstructured play time outdoors, in the\nwoods or along the streams, offers kids different experiences everyday while\nplaying group games, learning about the plants and animals they see, art,\nmusic, cookouts and storytelling. It\u2019s a lot of fun.\u201d Feedback from a forest\nschool parent included, \u201cI have truly never seen my son enjoy anything more\nthan this program.
