The weather was fine for the Trust’s 12th annual May Fair in the Park<\/strong><\/em> event,\u00a0 held Sunday, May 27, which attracted hundreds from the community and surrounding areas to Jerry Lawrence Provincial Park where outdoor fun activities reigned the day.<\/p>\n

The focus, as always, was promoting fun and learning about the natural world.\u00a0 Several community groups helped create the fair atmosphere including: Scouts with a camping demonstration, Roots to Boots Forest School Society<\/a>, St. Margaret’s Bay Stewardship Association<\/a>, BLT Rails to Trails<\/a>, Breathing Space Yoga<\/a>, Indian Point Young Naturalists Club<\/a>\u00a0each one offered demos, games and give-aways to the crowds.\u00a0 The Trust’s table offered free little white pines provided by Department of Natural Resources and cloth bags encouraging people to stop using plastic ones.\u00a0 Walking Guides were also available and we sold a few Memberships as well.<\/p>\n

Nova Scotia’s Learn to Fish<\/a> program taught many about fish species in the area and how to safely cast from the dock.\u00a0 They arranged for the lake to be stocked; much to the delight of many who successful caught their first fish.\u00a0 The fishing rods and safety gear were all provided and a very popular addition to the event.\u00a0 Children also enjoyed getting their face painted, playing with large bubbles and touring Fire Station 65’s fire truck.\u00a0 \u00a0A free BBQ of hot dogs, sausages and veggie dogs was also offered thanks to donations from Cavicchi’s Meats<\/a> and Sobey’s Tantallon.<\/p>\n

Many thanks to the volunteers who planned and managed this event for the benefit of our community.\u00a0 Great job!<\/p>\n
